Total Surveillance
Margaretha not only exploited Venus commercially but also deprived her of privacy and freedom in daily life. She would frequently check Venus’s phone and computer to ensure there were no unauthorized contacts with the outside world. Margaretha even installed surveillance software to monitor Venus’s online activities constantly. This invasive behavior left Venus with virtually no privacy, as her every move was under her mother’s strict control.
Restricting Social Life
Whenever Venus tried to make friends or date, Margaretha would strictly control these interactions, believing they would distract Venus from her “career.” Margaretha prohibited her from participating in any social activities and even restricted her from communicating with peers. This excessive control left Venus unable to form normal social relationships, making her feel isolated and helpless.
